Hundreds to Rally for Hempstead School Board Reforms 

Day After New Election Called, Community Rallies to Demand "People's Platform" of Reforms from Elected Officials



WHAT: 
Up to 1,000 Hempstead community members will rally Saturday to celebrate the incredible voter turnout in May's School Board election and to endorse a "People's Platform" of demands for reform from the board.

Organized by the powerful coalition of faith, labor, and community groups that nearly doubled turnout in May's election, the rally comes one day after Commissioner John King invalidated May's election and marks a new crescendo in community engagement.

Appearances are expected from Board President Lamont Johnson, Trustees Ricky Cooke and Shelley Brazely, who will support the People's Platform.

ABBA Leadership Center, New York Communities for Change, The Long Island Civic Engagement Table, La Fuente, Family and Children’s Association, New York Civil Liberties Union, Hempstead Classroom and Teachers Association, The Corridor Counts, Hempstead Hispanic Civic Association, STRONG Youth, Hempstead Chamber of Commerce, Judea Baptist Church, and the Pentecostal Church of Hempstead.

VISUALS: Up to 1,000 attendees of diverse races including young children/students, parents, teachers. Crowd holding posters, cheering, eating BBQ as part of community celebration. Stage for speakers, including community emcees, School Board members. Community members signing their names to official "People's Platform" poster board.
