Over the course of the summer, we were joined by four amazing youth as a part of this year’s Movement Building Organizer’s program. Now in its fourth year, the program is dedicated to developing new grassroots leaders, as well as increasing Voter Registration in African American, Latino and Immigrant communities.
This year we were pleased to expand the group of grassroots Long Island organizations participating, as we hosted youth from Make the Road New York, New York Communities for Change, SEPA Mujer, and STRONG Youth Inc.
Each of them, through their commitment to social justice and eagerness to learn, brought great experiences and fun moments throughout our three months. And together, we proudly announce that we registered over 2,000 new voters in communities such as Hempstead, Freeport, Brentwood and Central Islip.
We'd like to thank our youth for their energy and dedication, as well as their organizations for working together in achieving this project. We look forward to the next steps and opening this project to more local organizations throughout Long island in the following years, as our way of building community power and increasing electoral participation and political representation for our communities.
Congratulations Movement Building Organizer’s 2015!!
